Advanced Hearing Solutions, in partnership with Phonak Hearing Systems, donated a pair of automatic digital hearing aids and all evaluation and fitting services, a package worth over $4500, to a silent auction dedicated to helping people in Wilson County fighting cancer and to cancer research.
On September 13, 2008, the 5th Annual 5K Sherry's Run and Silent Auction was held at Wilson Bank and Trust in Lebanon, TN (1 mile west of Lebanon Public Square). On May 12, 2004, Sherry Whitaker lost her battle to Colon Cancer.
Sherry was 43 years old when diagnosed with the terrible disease. Her fight to live lasted 12 months and 12 days. During that time, Sherry was an inspiration to all of those around her. She never complained or ever asked the question "why me?" Sherry did tell another cancer patient the reason she had cancer was to help others who were also coping with the same battle. It was Sherry's desire to help others, without any expectation of something in return, that inspired "Sherry's Run."
In the past four years, from donations, entry fees, and revenue from the silent auction, Sherry's Run has raised over $275,000. This money has been and continues to be used to help patients and families battling cancer with everything from medication, to gas cards for traveling to appointments, to grocery bills. Additionally, funds are donated to the American Cancer Society, Sarah Cannon Cancer Institute, and Vanderbilt Children's Hospital.
"When Gary Whitaker spoke to the Mt Juliet Rotary Club, where I am a member, about Sherry's Run, I was determined to help," explained Dr. David Gnewikow, Owner of Advanced Hearing Solutions. "I contacted Phonak Hearing Systems and they readily agreed to donate two high-tech digital hearing aids. I am donated all of my services for evaluation, fitting, and follow-up. This package would normally cost over $4500, and we are proud that someone in need of help with their hearing, bid on this package and helped a wonderful cause."
